Born May 4th, 1961, Taras Loboda is a Ukraine Artist living in Prague (Czech Republic). He was born into the family of I.I.Loboda, the famous Ukrainian artist. His work is of thematic compositions, portraits, landscapes, still-lifes. The artist persistently and purposefully develops three main motives: woman’s portrait and act (body with melodious lines, a look with a sad solitude feeling), strict classic still life and a phantom landscape.
I first discovered Loboda while in Prague on one of the many trips there to work. While taking a break I decided to visit and tour the Prague Castle (founded in around 880), the crown jewel of this city that has maintained it’s medieval and architectural legacy that incorporates gothic and baroque, rococo and art nouveau. It truly is like the fairytales we read about as children.. Adjacent to the Charles Bridge, I find this city one of the most fascinating in Eastern Europe.
After visiting the castle, I set out to discover more about Prague when I entered a gallery full of the talents of local artists. I noticed a painting of a woman cloaked in red with pale skin and the most perfectly shaped green eyes that were hopeful yet longed for something she was missing. Her lips were drawn perfectly in crimson. The painting was both modern and yet had a glint of the masters; a great combination, an evident appreciation and depth of understanding of the fine line between reproduction and self expression…
As much as I wanted to walk away, I was captured by the enormity of an abstract piece and it’s every brush stroke and what it may have meant to the artist, and quite naturally my interpretation of what he meant… The greatest thing I’ve found when it comes to art is our own individual take on the feeling of the artist and the subject matter at hand…
Loboda captures an innocence of love, longing and romance. Something that captures the imagination of all…
I left that day with one of his paintings and consider it my favorite of all that I’ve collected thus far on my travels…
With every trip, I look forward to the discovery of a new artist and the story that every brush stroke will tell…
