As I gather all of my equipment, I am thrilled for yet another occasion and my part in making sure this day is her most special. Today will be a wedding to remember… One that has taken months of careful planning right down to every detail; from having chosen the perfect dress and wedding planner to assist with every decision that will help to create a dream filled with spectacular moments to the venue, lighting, flowers, menu, seating, place cards, napkins, table cloths and music for every second of the day.
This day will include The New York Public Library that stretches 390 feet along Fifth Avenue. The Library is of regal proportions and most certainly feels as if it were designed for royalty. The opulence of the staircases allow for entrances and exits of the most beautiful ballrooms of a European palace.
We started the day on the 46th floor looking out onto Columbus Circle listening to Sissel’s Pie Jesu. With peace and focus we begin the process of “Getting Ready”.
The beauty of this time is the affirmation that the day will be as magical as any bride has dreamed… With every pin that sets the hair and every brush stroke that I choose to ensure the most beautiful vision. With the love and support of her mother and Matron of Honor, the day runs as smoothly as clock work. Not one worry due to the fact that the wedding planner has made sure that there is everything to satisfy all desires for food or drink and that we have someone monitoring the clock while the photographers capture these stolen moments.
When the hair and makeup are as beautiful as the gown, we begin to dress the bride with buttoning every button and adding that something borrowed and something blue before she steps into her beautiful shoes and before placing the veil on her coiffed head of hair.
The day now begins with every plan that has been made from this moment onward, like butterflies in a field full of flowers on the most beautiful day….
Whether an elegant wedding at the New York Public Library, The Pierre Hotel or The Samode Palace in Jaipur, every one of them are as magical as the first bride that I felt lucky to share that moment with…

Beauty creating beauty…..
Mr. Rice, your insightful description of the bride’s lovely and long awaited day is so awesome…
Fascinating to see, the wonderful and extremely talented beauty maestro at work creating yet another uniquely awesome symphony of beauty just for the bride’s special occasion… I love it!!!
I love the chignon; they are so timelessly versatile…
It is so sensational how the chignon can give you an all day super look which can range between complete ladylike primness, to just downright sexiness…And, many wonderful variations in between…
Mr. Rice…May I call you Steven, I love everything about your brilliantly chic page and your creative blogs are so delightfully inspiring!!!
11 years later I look back on my wedding day and remember all you brought to it with such fondness… your talent, energy, thoughtful nature and love.. it was all so wonderful.
I have never had the pleasure of being powdered , quaffed, pluck, waxed nor buffed by Mr. Rice. But I do appreciate anno 2013, those who actually take the time and care to gather the skills and cultivate the talent to be of service; to others, to art and to beauty. Many with talent(or not) called themselves artist today. I prefer the medieval ‘artigiano’ or ‘artisan’; for talent is passive.. However skill ,talent and experience = the sublime. Mr. Rice you are ‘sei anni artigiano’ in the true Italian meaning of the word.
Merci d’avoir fait du beau monde à votre manière!
