MY WALL

THE DRESS

Inspiration and the Dress…

A few years ago a friend of mine shared with me that she would be getting married… She was elated! Her thoughts were that I would do her hair, makeup and of course help her choose the dress… I thought “WOW” this is so exciting…

The inspiration was a Country Wedding… Colors: soft pink, sand and of course white… This I thought would be the easiest approach instead of the HUGE Gala’s that I normally do…

We started our search at Bergdorf Goodman… One of the most beautiful places to sit have a glass of bubbly while listening to piped in music of a French Chanteuse serenading softly in the background… As much as I love being surrounded by beautiful things I’m just as thrilled to hear music that I find sublime..

We chose four dresses with four different silhouettes… Heart shaped with a slight bell in lace… Gorgeous… The next something from “Gone With The Wind” with a modern twist in a silk, just as nice… There was a form fitting one with caped sleeves with a slight eggshell lace and collar with a nude bodice  that reminded me of Jessica Rabbit…. Last but not least, a raw silk deconstructed gown with boning built into the framework to give a beautiful fit… Each time she tried on a dress I realized we were looking at dresses that were more suited for the Pierre Hotel…. As I photographed her in every one of them to text each image to her mother for approval, I realized I’d gotten myself into trouble…

Every reply that we received from her mother was that none of the dresses were dressy enough… There were two problems that seemed almost impossible to fix… Mother and daughter had two visions and neither were budging on the DRESS or INSPIRATION, however you wanna look at it…

Over the years I’ve seen many Mom’s and Daughter’s fall apart at the seams… Mom needs to understand that even if you are paying the bill, you’ve had your wedding and now it is your daughters turn to have it the way she has dreamed… Mom’s job is to be completely supportive and to be excited for the vision… I’ve seen many things unnecessarily happen over mixed idea’s… As a result the wedding I was so excited to help with turned into an outdoor Black-Tie on the hottest day of that year…

~ Take into consideration the time of year and what fabrics work well in that season… Base the attire of the overall party on the conditions of that time of year.

~ Look at whether it will be tented or a venue that is indoors and whether or not there will be enough heating or air-conditioning..

~ Sit with all who are involved and listen to the “Vision” of the Bride… It really is her day to wear her perfect dress totally inspired by her love….

I think the DRESS is as much a part of the day that INSPIRED two people to marry… Take your time, don’t over think it.. Just go with your feelings and you’ll truly have all your dreams come true….
